Kinda late notice, but there are t-shirts for sale off this website that have some intersting designs. The comics are video game satire so you should check those out while your at it. I would post this weeks comic on the blog, but I'm not sure whether it's appropriate or not.

Vector Magic
Vector Magic is an online bitmap tracing tool that creates vector images. It works just like Live Trace in Illustrator, though Stanford University, creators of the tool, argue that it works even better.
Check out this comparison :
It seems to me that some of the obvious issues with Adobe's tracer can be fixed by simply toying with some of the options, I'm not familiar with Corel's. But either way, it's another tool to stick in your belt, give it a shot and see how you like it.

More Gabe Art
Raymond Swanland
I love fantasy illustration and this guy creates some awesome looking examples of it. He is one of the creators of the Oddworld Universe and much of his work relates to that. I'm not very familiar with Oddworld myself, but it looks cool as hell.
If this image interests you at all check out his website that has many more examples of his work.

Bakers Pink
A teacher shared with us how a shade of pink was used in doctors offices to calm men specifically down when needles were used. The shade seemed to actually make the males more docile and were able to be administered the shot easily.
It was then decided that since the color calmed men down in the doctors office, its uses could be used in other places. The gyms of some prisons were painted this specially made shade of pink, Barker's Pink. The first few months of the gyms being painted proved that the men were calmed by the color and fights were drastically reduced. This didn't last long and after six months the inmates became psychotically violent. This spike in agression in all cases after prolonged exposure led to the ban of this color. It is now illegal in most places to use Baker's Pink.

Flash Help
Does anyone know how to make a tween, or animation where text gets smaller. Or how to make a zoom-out effect?
mmmm...beeeer
I wasn't quite sure what to put for this weeks blawg so I decided to do a review of several lesser known beers. It's suddenly fall, so many of us at drinking age might wanna try beers slightly darker than the usual summer stuff like bud light(gross) or corona...anyway:
(I'll start with my least favorite)
- Tommyknocker's Pick Axe: Not Great, way to fizzy and a strange after taste will haunt you for a few hours
-Flying Dog Pale Ale: Enh, not rich enough for me, pretty weak taste
-Pete's Strawberry Blonde: Good, sligth fruit flavor..maybe a bizarre mixture for some
-Flying Dog Amber Lager: Very Good, moderately dark, great taste
-Black Hawk Stout: Very Good, so dark not even light can escape it, great taste
-Sam Adam's Octoberfest: Very Good, great blend of spices and all kinds flavors

Histogram Image
This is pretty nerdy but I think it's neat as hell.
This guy, David from Ironic Sans, was messing around with the idea of having an image that was identical to its own histogram. He had some trouble getting that to work very well but after some messing around found a way to manipulate the histograms to actually create images within them. After reading about this, another digital art nerd, Josh Millard, decided to create a Perl script to fit an image to a specified histogram. Here is an example :

If you like listening to music while you do your work for school or your job, this site is awesome. You just type in an artist or a song and it comes up with an entire radio station devoted to music that is similar whatever it is you like!

desperate housewives vs. dexter
I was in the middle of posting a link to Dexter but the teacher just did :-/ so now I am stuck. In another direction, for the sake of art appreciation, I enjoy the opening to Desperate Housewives.
Reed designs
So my brother has a deviant art site and he dabble with digital arts on a constant basis. I just wanted to share his work with u guys as he is hopefully an up and coming artist and we may all be. Some of the works are digital and although he is 22 now his work goes back to early high school.
Blast from the past
car art
last week when we watched the video on cars as being art, it really got me thinking. anything can be art, and I realized how much handmade creation goes into desgining a car. I thought it was interesting that the same techniques that the old masters used in their sculptures are used to design cars by hand.
-sigh-
yeah, I don't know if im gonna do as good with this one right off the bat. I'm gonna have to re do it, because there is much more I want to add.
Someone last week made a flash video about driving. It reminded me of this one that I saw some time ago.

For some reason the one who posted this decided to post it in three parts.

blawg
This last assignment was challenging, it's difficult to replace your own style with someone else's. I really tried to get my piece to look like Hanuka's work but I'm still not satisfied. gripe, gripe,gripe....

Meth Minute 39
I saw "Internet People" last week or whenever it was that it got published but it didn't immediately have the biggest impact. But after seeing "Sex Machine" and then revisiting Dan Meth's previous episode it's growing on me. Maybe I'm just jealous that I didn't come up with such a great idea first. Anyhow, check out this guy's stuff on his frederator site, Meth Minute 39, it's really good, and keep an eye on him for the next few months, he's planning on publishing a video once a week, I believe.

Cosplay
Does anyone else do it? Probably not haha If you're wondering wtf I'm talking about, cosplay is dressing up in costumes for your favorite shows (usually at conventions) Heres a link to my page if anyone wanted to see: http://images.cosplay.com/gallery.php?member=28829&cat=500. I'll probably regret posting this but thats ok Even if no one else does it, does anyone go to conventions? The next one I'm going to AnimeUSA in November. I guess that's it for now :P
Digital Art
Flash is easy and incredibly difficult at the same time. It's really easy to pop out a little stupid flash thing, but if you want to make something good, it takes a really long freaking time and drives you crazy...
Am I the only one who keeps forgetting to post?

Fun flashes to watch
I enjoy watching these sick fighting flashes. They make good study guides lol.

I am still learning how to animate sticks. I only started seriously using flash this semester. Is anyone else good with stick animation?

HP Commercial
I don't watch a lot of TV so this may not be new to everyone, but I just saw some pretty cool HP commercials that I thought were great examples of digital art.
Serena Williams
Shaun White
The Making of the Shaun White Ad
An interesting side note, the snowboards shown in the Shaun White Ad were actually illustrated by James Jean, who is probably one of my favorite illustrators.

a bothersome font
The more design classes I take, the more I notice printed stuff and critique it. I keep noticing all these ads that use the font papyrus all over the place, and it's getting to the point where that font really annoys me. Wow, does that sound nerdy or what? I can't believe I actually care about fonts. But I would definitely say that papyrus is the most overused annoying font. There are other overused fonts like times new roman, but oh how papyrus bothers me.
